July 12, 2014

Ph.D. postdoctoral researcher, Dustin McLarty from the University of California, Irvine's National Fuel Cell Research Center (NFCRC) has been awarded a Fulbright scholarship to continue his research at the University of Genoa, Italy. The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is one of the most prestigious international awards for students and scholars. Dustin's research at the NFCRC is focused on the UC Irvine Microgrid and leveling out the intermittencies involved with a grid that relies on renewable sources of energy. UC Irvine's cutting edge Microgrid is self-generating and provides nearly 99% of the campus' electricity, cooling, and heating needs. Dustin is the first Henry Samueli School of Engineering recipient, and joins a group of distinguished Fulbright alumni who have gone on to become Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners and leaders in industry, government, and academia.
